About This Blog

AuthorThe obligatory Alaska photo… the blog author at the whalebone arch on the beach at Barrow, the farthest north city in the USA.

If you ever wondered what the far ends of the earth look like… they’re very flat. That’s the Arctic Ocean in the background. The North Pole is out there behind me, somewhere.

SEAPRO_GlacierBayThe author at work on a good day… the sun is shining, water is calm, I’m just standing around with my hands in my pockets and wearing dark sunglasses. Everything is going as it should. A temporary condition, no doubt.

For background purposes (and in the interest of full disclosure):  The author of this blog has never worked directly for an oil company.  I have been a federal regulator of the oil industry here in Alaska, a state regulator of the oil industry (also in Alaska), and have worked for various service industries that cater to oil companies.  As an Alaskan resident,  I also get a share of the royalty proceeds from oil production in the state (the Permanent Fund Dividend, or PFD).  So you could argue that I get bribed by the oil companies once a year.
